STARLINK® Installation - Done Right!
How does Frequensea Marine tackle a STARLINK® Installation on a Formula boat?

Hardtop Placement and Radar Obstruction
The primary technical hurdle on a hardtop setup like this is line-of-sight blockage. Starlink requires a wide, 110-degree unobstructed cone of the sky to maintain a continuous, zero-latency handoff between passing low-Earth-orbit satellites.
The Challenge with Domes: The two existing black satellite domes on the left and right stand quite tall. If you place a low-profile flat Starlink dish directly onto the fiberglass surface of the hardtop between or behind them, those domes will create a significant "shadow zone." When the boat swings at anchor or changes heading, the domes will clip the signal, leading to brief drops or buffering.
The Radar Beam Path: The central radar dome emits a concentrated beam horizontally. You want to ensure the Starlink dish sits either entirely below the sweep of that radar beam or far enough back that the radar energy isn't shooting directly into the Starlink's internal phased-array face, which can cause permanent hardware damage or create major target interference on your navigation screens.
Optimal Mounting Solutions for this Specific Layout
To make a Starlink installation work seamlessly alongside your current equipment, a custom hardware adaptation is highly recommended:
Elevated Modular Mast Mount: Rather than dropping the Starlink flat on the hardtop canvas or fiberglass, top-tier installers use a modular aluminum or stainless steel mast (such as those from Seaview or Scanstrut). Elevating the Starlink dish slightly puts it on an even vertical plane with—or just above—the top of your existing black domes, clearing the obstruction entirely.
Aft Hardtop Extension: Another popular configuration for Formula cruisers is mounting the Starlink dish on a reverse-angled wedge at the very back edge (aft) of the hardtop. This places the dish behind the radar's blind spot and utilizes the open air space over the cockpit or swim platform to keep the skyward view completely clear.
Aesthetic and Network Integration
Custom Color Matching: Formula boats are celebrated for their premium finishes and impeccable styling. To preserve the immaculate look on your boat, you can opt for marine-grade vinyl wrapping or specialized painting for the Starlink chassis to match your sleek black electronics aesthetic.
Intelligent Switching: The system can be wired down into the cabin's electronics locker using an intelligent multi-WAN selector or a Peplink router. This allows the boat to automatically use free marina Wi-Fi at the dock, switch seamlessly to Starlink offshore, and fall back on cellular or legacy satellite data only when absolutely necessary.

Installing a Starlink® on a luxury express cruiser like a Formula boat introduces slightly different placement considerations than an open center console.
The Problem: The hardtop is packed with two tall satellite domes and a central closed-dome radar. A standard flat-mount would have been completely blocked, causing constant signal drops.
The Frequensea Solution: We positioned the Starlink dish on the mid-ship port using a Seaview Starlink pedestal mount.
Why it works: We placed it perfectly below the horizontal beam path of the central radar, completely protecting the Starlink from microwave radiation while preventing a blind spot on your helm's radar screen.
